Chögyal Namkhai Norbu: “The Dance of the Vajra is related to the state of contemplation or what we call the state of Dzogchen. Its origin, of course, is Samantabhadra yab-yum, that is, the Dharmakaya. From the Dharmakaya arise manifestations of the Sambhogakaya such as Guhyajnana Dakini. …
From this Sambhogakaya manifestation originates the actual Dzogchen teaching taught by Garab Dorje, the root of the Dzogchen teaching. … His first students, starting from Manjushrimitra, were all realized masters in what came to be known as the Semde lineage of Dzogchen. Among these masters, Gomadevi, the daughter of a king of Oddiyana named Maharaja, became one of the most important teachers in the
Dzogchen Semde lineage. From that point onward, I believe the Dance of the Vaira is connected also with Guru Padmasambhava and Mandarava, a consort of Guru Padmasambhava. After receiving this teaching through my dreams from a manifestation of Gomadevi, later I had many dreams also of Mandarava related to the Dance of the Vajra. For this reason I believe Guru Padmasambhava and Mandarava are linked with the Dance. We can call this the lineage of the Dance of the Vajra.”
